Your war isn't customizable enough? Don't worry - the newest Call of Duty release will let you have it your way. Multiplayer Duty has always been about building your personal class to your exact specifications, and Modern Warfare 3 is certainly no different. In fact, it allows for way more customization than in any of the previous games. Whether you're a run-and-gun kind of player or someone that prefers to stick to the shadows, the folks at Infinity Ward are making sure you get to play the way you want to.
Hate waiting for a new attachment to unlock, only to find out that you can't even use it with your current gun? Not a problem anymore. Getting new gear for your favorite tool of destruction only happens through using that specific weapon. Got your eye on that fancy ACOG scope for your SCAR? Simply use that particular firearm a lot and the scope will unlock. No more slogging through useless gear in order to get that prize you've always wanted.
It only makes sense that using a gun a lot means you'll get better with it, right? New to the mix are weapon Proficiencies - skills that unlock as a player keeps using a particular weapon. Everything from less kickback when firing to bullets that penetrate through walls more efficiently is available for upgrade.
Of course, all this new stuff would be useless without new modes in which to use it. We got our hands on the new Kill Confirmed mode, a modified Team Deathmatch where frags don't count unless someone grabs the fallen opponent's dog tags. Perhaps more importantly, if an enemy grabs those of their downed comrade, that point doesn't count for your team. The scramble to snag the floating pieces of hardware often devolves into a chaotic brawl between those trying to score points and those trying to defend their teammates. It certainly encourages players to stick together and watch each other's backs.
Tired of players only worrying about their own kill/death ratio and ignoring the needs of the team? Well, those more interested in completing objectives than topping the leaderboards can take advantage of the new Streak system. With it, players will get to choose between three different Streak Packages, each of which focuses on different goals. Of course, the normal Kill Streaks are still there, but now players can pick the Support Package, which rewards them for doing everything from capturing a point in Domination to destroying that pesky chopper mowing down your teammates. Streaks in this package don't wipe after death, so dying while attempting to help your teammates isn't a huge deal.
But those players looking to make their ideal super soldier will want to keep their eyes on the Specialist package. For every two kills players get in a single life, they'll be adorned with a new perk of their choice. Don't want to give up Sleight of Hand for Quickdraw? Well, now you can have both! For more expert players, it's a great opportunity to prove their skills without having to worry about all those pesky Kill Streak rewards floating around.

Or would you rather get rid of the competitive aspect of multiplayer entirely? Fans of the Spec Ops modes will be happy to know that, in addition to the Modern Warfare 2's two-player co-op caper, a new Survival mode has been added. Similar to many of the Horde-style modes out there, a pair of players will face down waves of enemies that get increasingly tougher. But you're not without help. Taking down enemies nets money that can be spent on new rifles, turrets, or even a complete squad of Marines to aid you in battle. Those pesky invaders won't know what hit 'em.
Bringing the fight has never been more personal. Modern Warfare 3 isn't about letting you play the way that you want to play, it's about encouraging you to do so. Want to be the lone gun, roaming the maps in search of your next kill? Go for it. Prefer to watch your buddy's back while you both take control of an important tactical position? Lovely. Just remember to have fun.
